Interview With Ricky Allen
By Elizabeth Sinclair

1. Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Ricky Allen and I live in England.

I am President, CEO and founder of Insight In Action Ltd. Through
this company I provide many online services including eBook
compilation and proof reading, graphics and web design, and
professional reviews of web sites and sales materials.

I started off in the Mail Order marketing field but the increased
potential of selling on the Internet led to a transition to this
new and exciting market place.

My company now has a number of web sites on the Internet and I am
always looking to get involved with others to expand and improve
the business.

2. How would you describe your personality?

Hyperactive?

Well what I mean is I always want to be doing something, creating
something, researching something, finding a better way of doing
something.

Okay then positive go-getter may be a better description! This
attitude comes to the forefront both at work and at play.

3. How did you become interested in the internet and when did you
first "go online"?

My background comes from both writing and offline marketing. I
love to write and have written both fiction and non-fiction.

Offline I sold physical informational products (real books and
pamphlets, delivered by post, of the "How To Do Things" type)
along with some fictional novels.

And then I "discovered" the Internet. It was about five years ago
that I started to take a real interest in this exciting new
media. Knowing what I now know I only wish that I had become more
involved with it earlier.

It really was a natural progression and a lot of what I was doing
offline at the time transferred quickly and easily. Particularly
when I found out just how easily I could create electronic
versions (ebooks) of a lot of the things I had written.

4. What businesses/websites do you currently operate on the
internet?

http://www.infobooks4u.com

My first web site where I started by selling other peoples
electronic books. Until it became obvious to me that to make more
money from this you had to be the prime source. Write and sell
your own ebooks is my strong advise to anyone wanting to make
money on the Internet.

http://www.theauctionacademy.com

Shortly after launching my first site I began to take an Interest
in Online Auctions and particularly the "daddy" of all Online
Auction sites, ebay.

I was lucky enough to get involved with a real expert on Online
Auctions and soon launched my first Online Auction ebook which
has gone on to become one of my best sellers.

http://www.yourauctioncashmachine.com

Sticking with the Online Auction theme I launched this site to
concentrate on what I believe is both the quickest and easiest
way of both getting started in selling at Online Auctions with a
product which will become a perpetual cash machine for those
selling this product.

5. What inspired you or made you decide to start your current
online business/website?

My latest website came about as a result of a Joint Venture.

As always with my sites this one seeks to help people and in this
case is designed to help people write and write properly.

You can take a look at this at:

http://www.welcometoeasywriting.com

6. What is one of the biggest mistakes and/or blunders you have
made while marketing online, and what did you learn from it?

Without a shadow of a doubt my biggest blunder happened just as I
was about to launch my first site.

I paid an "Internet and Copywriting Expert" a large sum of money
to write a sales letter for my new site and generate publicity
for it. Okay I was new to this and despite the fact that I was
already a writer this seemed at the time the best way to get off
to a quick start. I didn't sell a single copy of the ebook as a
result of this.

I was so annoyed that I actually took the site down! I could
easily have given up there and then. But I didn't. I spent a
whole year surfing the Internet, looking at the most successful
sites, taking in valuable information from every source I could
find, analysing why some web sites sold products easily and some
didn't. I must have also read hundreds of books (both electronic
and hard back).

With all this information running around in my head I sat down
and wrote my first Internet sales letter. I relaunched my site
and immediately my first ebook started to sell!

Now some important facts here. It was a good ebook. I had lots of
praise from people who bought it. The original sales letter was
not written with a feeling of belief but more with a "what shall
I say about this product, I've not read it myself but I have to
tell people how good it is".

Now if you can't write a sales letter yourself and you are
thinking of getting someone to write it for you unless one of the
first things they say is "Right send me a copy of the product,
I'll need to take a look at it first" then look elsewhere.

Better still learn to write sales copy yourself!

7. What percent of your income is made from online sales?

Around 50% but I believe that in the next year this will become
100%. I definitely want to get to (and will succeed in getting
to) the stage where every part of my business is dealt with
online.

8. What are your most successful means of advertising.

Definitely Ezine Advertising.

9. Do you have any advertising tips or secrets you would like to
share with our readers?

I strongly believe that ezine advertising will net you the best
results and targeted exine advertising the best of all.

What do I mean? Well to give a real life example. A lot of my
current writing is to do with Online Auctions. So I looked around
for an ezine to advertise in one that specialized in that subject,
was an Optin ezine (you have to request that you are subscribed
to it), carried quality information and not just ads and was run
by someone who was knowledgeable in the ezine specialised
subject.

And I found, and I have no hesitation in recommending Robin
Tungetts Auction Riches Ezine at

http://www.auctionriches.com

If your product is to do with Online Auction then this is the
place to advertise.

10. What do you like most about being online?

The freedom to do my own thing. I choose how much time I spend
working online, how much effort I put into the many and varied
projects I am involved in. And it gives me lots of opportunities
to carry out my favorite pastime. Writing. I love to write and if
you are able to do something you truly like doing you really do
stop thinking of it as work.

Now don't get me wrong I work harder at this than I ever have in
any 9-5 job but the rewards for this (and I am not just talking
about the money side of things although of course this is
important to us all) seem so much better somehow.

I genuinely try to help as many people as I can in many ways. So
the other thing I really like is when I get praise for something
I've done, something I have created. It really is a great
feeling.

A recent example of this is that I received great acclaim for my
Ricky Allen's Joint Ventures ebook from many people I have worked
with on the Internet and who I have grown to know over the last
few years.

I put a lot of work into this and included both step-by-step
information on how to carry out your own Joint Venture and also
included hints, tips and strategies on Joint Ventures by some of
the most successful Internet moneymakers.

You can find out more about my Ricky Allens Joint Venture$ ebook
at

http://www.infobooks4u.com

And believe me Joint Ventures and Joint Venture Marketing are
without doubt the most important ways you can increase your
success on the Internet.

11. What are your goals for 2003?

To create more streams of income. To spread my Internet wings
even further because to really start making money then multiple
streams of income is the way to go. You could be lucky of course
and have one product or service that everyone wants and needs. If
you do then good luck to you but for the rest of us mere mortals
the more streams of income (different products and services) you
can offer, the better.

12. What advice would you give to someone trying to start their
own online business?

Look, Listen and Learn.

Don't just rush in and think that the Internet streets are paved
with gold. If you are thinking of selling a particular product
search for similar ones that are selling on the Internet because
there will be some. Don't be afraid of this fact though. Turn it
to your advantage. What makes your product stand out from the
competition? Take a look at how yours compares. See how you can
market it. Let me be clear on one fact here though.

You can and I sincerely hope you will make money on the Internet.
It is the biggest marketplace in the world and you cannot afford
to miss out on the huge money making potential here.

Good luck to you in your Internet Ventures.

Ricky Allen
